We are the only clinic within two hours of Tioga offering standing MRI, traditional MRI, and equine bone scan. Equine Reproduction & Breeding
Mare Care, AI & Embryo Transfer
Breeding a good mare is expensive, seasonal, and unforgiving of delay. A cycle missed in March doesn't come back around, and a mare that isn't managed closely can cost you a full year.
Mid-South Equine provides reproductive care for performance horse breeders across North Texas, from routine cycle management through embryo transfer and foaling.
Mare Reproductive Evaluation
Before breeding, we evaluate whether a mare is set up to conceive and carry:
Transrectal ultrasound of the uterus and ovaries
Uterine culture and cytology
Uterine biopsy when indicated
Vaginal and cervical examination
Assessment of perineal conformation
Caslick's evaluation and placement
Problem mares are worth evaluating early. A mare that failed to settle last season usually has a reason, and identifying it in December is far better than discovering it in May after three wasted cycles.
Cycle Management & Artificial Insemination
We follow mares by ultrasound through the cycle to time insemination precisely — the single largest factor in conception rates.
We work with:

Frozen semen
Frozen semen requires the tightest timing of the three, with insemination windows measured in hours. Mares on frozen programs are checked frequently through the periovulatory period.
We coordinate directly with stallion stations on collection schedules and shipping.
Embryo Transfer
Embryo Transfer Embryo transfer lets a mare produce foals while continuing to compete, and lets a proven mare produce more than one foal per season. The process: the donor mare is bred and the embryo is flushed from her uterus, typically seven to eight days after ovulation. The embryo is then transferred into a synchronized recipient mare who carries the pregnancy to term.

Twins are the most preventable disaster in equine breeding. Caught at 14 days, reduction is straightforward. Caught late, the usual outcome is losing both.
Foaling & Neonatal Care
Foal care includes:

IgG testing at 18–24 hours to confirm passive transfer

Plasma administration when IgG is inadequate

Mare postpartum examination
Failure of passive transfer is an emergency with a narrow window. Every foal should be tested, and any foal from a mare that dripped milk before foaling, had a difficult delivery, or was slow to nurse should be tested urgently.
Dr. Alli Salinger's clinical interests include neonatal care, and sick foals have access to the same surgical suite and in-house laboratory as the rest of the practice.
