Until this technology existed, evaluating the airway in a working horse meant a high-speed treadmill — a different surface, a different head carriage, and nothing like the collection a western pleasure or reining horse actually carries. Overground endoscopy reproduces the real conditions. And because we perform upper airway surgery, including tie-back, tie-forward, and epiglottic entrapment correction, the veterinarian who finds the problem is the one who fixes it. No shipping your horse elsewhere between the diagnosis and the procedure.

Overground endoscopy or the exercising scope

If your horse makes a noise under saddle, runs out of air, or just quits on you in the last third of a class, a standard scope in the barn aisle may tell you nothing. Many upper airway obstructions only appear during hard work, which means a resting exam misses them or reads them wrong. Dynamic respiratory endoscopy solves that. A lightweight endoscope mounts to the bridle with a recording unit on the saddle pad, and your horse works in his own tack, at his own job, at the speed and effort where the problem shows up. The exam is viewed live on a handheld monitor and recorded, so it can be reviewed in slow motion afterward to catch subtle collapse.
